Egg-cellent Easter Trends

Let’s talk about Easter, undoubtedly one the best holidays of the year. It’s a time many look forward to, basically a four-day long, chocolate and roast-lamb bender. By the time Easter Monday evening rolls around, most of us Brits lay full-bellied, well-rested and satisfied. Some elements of the Easter holidays are unchanged, chocolate, egg hunts, country walks, roast dinners and Mr Bunny – and of course religion – are all firmly set in tradition. However, each year brings a new addition to the Easter trends mix, adding an extra layer of fun to the proceedings. So what are the key Easter trends for consumers this year?

The main event: CHOCOLATE

From solid eggs, to salted caramel toppings and incredible edible decorations, each year new levels of EGGS-traordinary chocolate craft are achieved. From the wild and wacky to glitzy and gluttonous – the eggs just keep getting better!

Jumping on the super-food trend, Waitrose has released an avocado shaped Easter egg, which has flown of the shelves.

For the floozy boozers, Prestat has released gin truffle and pink popping prosecco Easter eggs. Tesco has also added a gin and elderflower egg to the shelves this year. Gin + chocolate, what’s not to love?

Cocoa loco has a range of vegan chocolate eggs, so even those who don’t eat dairy aren’t missing out on the feast!

Not into chocolate?

No problem… how about a cheese egg? Unashamedly described as ‘un-EGG-spected’, the Blacksticks Cheester egg is available from Asda, and features spreadable blue cheese, oatcakes and chutney. Yum.

Baking has become bigger than ever thanks to the Great British Bake off and Easter is a particularly popular time to get mixing up something special. From the classic hot cross bun to an EGG-stravagant three-tiered cake, the possibilities are endless.

For a twist on tradition, utilise those leftover hot cross buns and cook-up something new. Jamie Oliver has some superb suggestions including Bun & Butter pudding or Hot Cross Breadcrumbs.

Why not whip-up BBC Good Food’s Easter Nest Cake or Carrot Patch Cake, brilliant for edible table centre-pieces.

Set the scene: HOME DÉCOR

Decorative trees and wreaths are no longer just for Christmas. Oh no, the Easter-tree has arrived. Think pastel tones, chicks, bunnies, feathers, hanging eggs and tiny nests – the more the merrier.
