MWC 2018 ROUND-UP: STAYING CONNECTED WITH CONSUMER TECHNOLOGY06/03/2018
The Europe’s biggest consumer technology show, Mobile World Congress 2018, wrapped last week in Barcelona, Spain. We loved reading about the interesting technologies that were revealed, including the flying taxis, courtesy of Huawei; Nubia’s Supercar-inspired Gaming Phone and headset from Modius that sends electronic pulses to help lose weight, so we’ve compiled our favourite consumer technology stories from #MWC2018 below.
Richa Kundnani: “As a loyal android user, it was exciting to see the launch of the Samsung S9 pair at this year’s tech show after the avalanche of leaks. I was also impressed that relatively unknown brands managed to soak up a lot of the limelight with innovations such as the APEX concept phone. From the selfie camera that slides out and retracts, to the invisible fingerprint sensor that’s embedded underneath the display, and screen that vibrates phone calls into your ear – this phone was just a glimpse into what we’re to expect in the future of mobile phones.”
Holly Forrest: “At one of the world’s biggest consumer tech shows, it’s great to see British brand flying the flag for innovation. That’s why my highlight of the show has to be the new STK X2. The London-based smartphone manufacturer launched latest device has 128GB storage, a 16MP camera on both the front and back of the device (perfect for selfies and group pics) plus a fingerprint scanner on the rear. It looks slick, it has got the tech – in my view it is a serious contender for the modern-day consumer.”
Sara French: “For me, the highlight had to be Nokia bouncing back to into the competitive market. Along with reinventing the iconic 8110 ‘Banana Phone’ (as seen in the Matrix!) – which understandably got tongues wagging in its bright new yellow coat and additional 4G connectivity – Nokia also announced four new smart phone models, allowing them to compete better with the likes of Apple and Sony. The Nokia 1, Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus and the ‘unbendable’ Nokia 8 Sirocco all appeal to different users, with better connectivity, better quality cameras and more appealing screen displays. And of course Snake. It isn’t a Nokia without Snake, surely?”
Despite the lack of ‘flagship’ phone launches expected from the big brands, Mobile World Congress 2018 still revealed plenty of exciting, new technologies. We can’t wait to see what other innovations will be revealed at other consumer tech shows this year. Maybe we will be riding round in DeLorean time travel cars by the end of the year?
