Client Snapshot: Media Event Website Workshop04/03/2013
Last week, the gang at Cherish PR were thrilled to host a media event for our Israel-based client, Wix.com. Having come up with the idea for the first event towards the end of 2012 in order to introduce the Wix brand to some highly influential writers, Cherish PR was delighted to finally put all our planning into motion. A free and practical event, it offered a creative environment in which to learn more about website building from the very best in the business.
And so, on Wednesday afternoon we invited fifteen freelance journalists, all of whom were in need of a website on which to showcase their work, along to The Hub in Islington for a Wix Website Masterclass. They were not only given the opportunity to learn how to create their own HTML5 website from scratch but also got the chance to mingle with interesting small businesses and like-minded journalists.
During the afternoon, the journalists were given a step by step demonstration on how to build a website from scratch using Wix’s freemium web publishing platform. From choosing a font size and selecting a template, to uploading photos and files, all stages of website building were covered in easy-to-digest bites.
In addition to having the Wix team – Ilana, Vered and Daphna over from Israel, we also had three ‘Wix Pros’, professional web designers, on hand to answer any of the journalists’ queries.
Maggie, Rachel and Tracy – the three Wix Pros that came to our event – have all built their own online businesses – in flower arranging, graphic design and photography, using Wix as a platform. Thus they were able to give first hand advice on how they build their websites with the help of Wix.
By the time the afternoon was drawing to a close, and the cupcakes had all but disappeared, even the least technically savvy journalists had made something of a headway on their website. Both Wix and Cherish were thrilled with the turn out and response to this unique event, and it’s clear from the feedback from all who attended that the feeling was mutual:
- Jenna Wood (Grazia, Sunday Times Style, Marie Claire): “I found the workshop really inspiring and useful and I love the concept of being able to build my own website and for it to look really professional without having to spend loads of money.”
- Fiona Wright (Daily Mail, Woman & Home, Woman): ‘I thought the workshop was really good, liked the venue, Wix people were very helpful and very good teachers’
- Lowri Clarke (Londonlovesbusiness.com, Spoonfed.co.uk): ‘The day was very informative, the site is easy to use, fun, inspiring’.
- Charlotte Ward (Marie Claire, Glamour, Zest): “After tearing my hair out trying to get to grips with website design I found Wix.com refreshingly easy to use.”
And following the media event with many of the journalists having expressed an interest in further tuition on how to get the most from Wix’s freemium service, there may well be more workshops in the future. Watch this space!
